Ottawa has announced major changes to the way it will handle the environmental reviews of "major economic projects" in a plan aimed at 'streamlining and speeding up the process'.

Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver unveiled the government's new approach in a speech at a Toronto manufacturer of materials used in oil and gas pipelines Tuesday morning.

Environmentalist say the reforms are a gift to big oil.
